A member of the UK Parliament spoke about the problems with LGBT fans at the 2022 World Cup.


As a gay person, I declare my interest [in the situation]. I`m a gay fan of England and it`s not safe for someone like me to be in Qatar for the World Cup.


Personally, I don`t think Qatar should ever be awarded a major sporting event in principle due to violations of human rights, migrant workers and the LGBT population, said Luke Pollard, who is openly gay.


After that, Pollard called on ministers to support England players in wearing the OneLove anti-discrimination armband, and also called on Foreign Secretary James Cleverley to apologize for his words about LGBT people. Cleverley previously said LGBT fans in Qatar need to show a bit of flexibility and compromise and respect the culture of the host country.


Will ministers support UK captains in wearing rainbow headbands when they play in the World Cup? And will they apologize for the statements of the Minister of Foreign Affairs? Because it is unacceptable for a government minister to force LGBT people to hide in a closet again, " Pollard said.
