There would be no problems with this in the locker room - the players would support the partners who came out.


But the players are afraid of the reaction from the side or the fans. Personally, I experienced this with Thomas Hitzlsperger at Aston Villa: I didn`t think he was gay and when he said it, the reaction was quite normal.


The locker rooms of European teams have never been so tolerant, multicultural, multi-religious [as they are now]. Of course, there will always be some homophobe outside the team.
